This past Sunday's Bible lesson comes from Matthew 4:18-22; 9:9-13; John 1:35-51
As some of the first disciples rushed to meet Jesus, He asked them, "WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR? WHAT DO YOU WANT?" (John 1:38). The disciples responded by asking where He was staying, so they could stay near Him.
What was Jesus really asking them? "What are you searching for in your life. What if Jesus asked you that same question:
- What would you tell Jesus that you are searching for?
- What is it that you want from Jesus?
Just as the first disciples were invited by Jesus to follow Him and to spend time with Him, so are we. As we follow Him, we will become more and more like Him and will see HOW MUCH HE IS TRULY WHAT WE HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR!
What I find so exciting in this story is that Jesus chose His first disciples from totally unlikely places and He chose totally unlikely people. There are times when I think about myself: "WHO AM I to serve Christ?" I have no divinity school education, and yet He called me to work in His Kingdom. Nothing is impossible with Christ.
